Is reserving the same as getting a Sotel line?
No. Reserving holds a phone number in your name until launch. Nothing is activated and nothing changes on your phone.
At launch you download the Sotel app, sign up with the same email, and claim the phone number. Activation, identity checks and choosing a plan all happen there.
Does it cost anything to reserve?
There’s nothing to pay now. Reserving simply holds the phone number. You’ll choose and pay for a plan when you activate in the app.
Can I reserve more than one phone number?
One phone number per email address for now, so there’s no need to reserve again once you have one. If you need a second line later, you’ll be able to add phone numbers in the app after launch.
What if someone else wants the same phone number?
A phone number goes to whoever picks it first. The moment you pick one we hold it for you for 10 minutes, so nobody else can take it while you fill in your details; if the 10 minutes run out, it opens up again. If someone already has the phone number you wanted, we tell you straight away and show close alternatives. Nobody can take a phone number you’ve already reserved.
How long will you hold it after launch?
For 48 hours from the moment Sotel launches. We’ll email you on launch day and again before the 48 hours are up. If the phone number hasn’t been claimed by then, it goes back into the pool for someone else, so claim it as soon as the app is live.
Do I need my NIN now?
No. Identity checks, including NIN, happen when you activate in the app, as the NCC requires. Today we only need a name and an email.
Will my current phone number stop working?
No. Reserving a Sotel phone number doesn’t touch your existing line. You can keep both, or move to Sotel when you’re ready.
Where does Sotel work?
Sotel works in every state in Nigeria, for calls, data and SMS. When you travel, the Sotel travel eSIM gives you data in more than 180 other countries.
Can I change my mind?
Yes. Write to sotel@termii.com from the email you reserved with and we’ll release the phone number so you can choose another.
